When we want to say that two things are exactly equal in a specific attribute or quality, we use the structure as + [adjective] + as.
This structure tells the listener that there is no difference between the two subjects regarding the adjective used.
Sentence Structure
Subject 1 + Verb + as + [adjective] + as + Subject 2
Examples
- My house is as big as yours. (Meaning: Both houses are the same size.)
- She is as smart as her older brother. (Meaning: They have the same level of intelligence.)
- Today is as hot as yesterday. (Meaning: The temperature is the same today and yesterday.)
Note: You do not change the adjective when using this structure. Do not use comparative forms (e.g., say "as big as," not "as bigger as").
