The simple present and present continuous are the two most common present tenses in English. Each serves a different purpose.
Simple Present
Use the simple present for:
- Habits and routines: "I brush my teeth every morning."
- Facts and general truths: "Water boils at 100°C."
- Scheduled events: "The train leaves at 6 pm."
Form: base verb (add -s or -es for he/she/it).

Present Continuous

- Plans and arrangements: "We are meeting them tomorrow."
Form: am / is / are + verb-ing

Stative Verbs
Some verbs describe states, not actions. They are rarely used in the continuous form:
- Thoughts: know, believe, understand, remember
- Emotions: love, hate, like, want
- Senses: see, hear, smell, taste
- Possession: have, own, belong
Correct: "I know the answer." Incorrect: "I ~~am knowing~~ the answer."
